Fania All-Stars

Fania Records' revolving supergroup.

The Fania All-Stars were the revolving supergroup through which Fania staged its biggest names as a citywide, then national, commodity. Their first concert was a promotional experiment at the Red Garter in Greenwich Village; the August 26, 1971 Cheetah Club show, filmed for 'Our Latin Thing,' became the genre's turning point. The film presented commercialization as the natural outgrowth of barrio life, branding built on already-existing neighborhood cultures.
